Councilman Fred Jung was elected 2020 as the first Korean American City Councilmember in Fullerton’s history. He is now running for re-election to the Fullerton City Council to continue serving the residents of Fullerton’s District 1.
Fred Jung is proud to be fully endorsed by Fullerton’s Police Officers and Firefighters.
Prior to joining Council, Fred served on the Parks and Recreation Commission and Traffic and Circulation Commission.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Fred came to the United States at the age of 5 and has lived in Fullerton District 1 since 1987. He attended Sunny Hills High School and volunteered as a Sunny Hills High School football coach for many years. Fred has owned many successful small businesses. He also went on to found one of North Orange County's largest youth sports nonprofit organizations. He started the jazz magazines All About Jazz Los Angeles, All About Jazz Chicago, All About Jazz San Francisco, and Jazz Weekly. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Jazz Journalists Association. He attended the University of Southern California.
In addition to his council duties, Fred has been actively involved in various influential regional boards and committees, giving Fullerton a voice throughout the region. He currently serves as Chair of the Orange County Power Authority and is on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), San Gabriel Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) - Transportation Policy Committee, Orange County Council of Governments (OCCOG), and California League of Cities (CALCities) - Orange County Regional Division, and LOSSAN. Fred was also appointed by Governor Newson to serve on the California State Mining and Geology Board (SMGB) committee.
